We'll also consult modern historians and discover how they view the today's American government with respect to our democracy's history. No experience necessary. The instructor is Elynn Gayle who has 30 years of experience teaching English and creating imaginative curriculum. Currently teaching at Boston University.

Join actors Stephen Collins and Poornima Kirby of New Muse Productions for this haunting, darkly funny adaptation of Shakespeare's timeless classic. This one-hour production draws directly from Shakespeare's text, with Stephen Collins as the mercurial King Lear, and Poornima Kirby as his devoted, clear-eye fool, who narrates the action, and flows fluidly between Lear's daughters, friends, enemies. This artistic adaptation honors the beautiful essence of the play, while bringing fresh life and a playful twist to its timeless questions of mortality, loyalty, and the parent-child bond.

Museum of Fine Arts Special Exhibit Trip

Monday, May 20 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm

Brookline Senior Center

Join us for this trip to explore the new Hallyu! The Korean Wave exhibit. Today, South Korea is a cultural superpower-a global trendsetter producing award. But behind the country's meteoric rise to the world stage-a phenomenon known as the Korean Wave, or- hallyu-is the story of remarkable resilience and innovation. Just a century ago, Korea was in search of a new national identity, following its occupation by Japan and the Korean War. Harnessing cutting-edge technology, the country has rapidly transformed its economy and international reputation. At the same time, its creative outputs are deeply rooted in its past, with many contemporary artists, filmmakers, musicians, and fashion designers paying tribute to traditional values and art forms dating back to Korea's dynastic kingdom days. "Hallyu! The Korean Wave" features approximately 250 objects-costumes, props, photographs, videos, pop culture ephemera, and contemporary works. Among the highlights are outfits worn by different generations of K-pop idols, dresses by couture designer Park Sohee and Next in Fashion winner Minju Kim, a large-scale needlework designed by South Korean artist Kyungah Ham and made by anonymous embroiderers from North Korea, and pieces exploring the Korean American experience by Timothy Hyunsoo Lee and Julia Kwon. Additionally, the exhibition showcases objects from the MFA's own renowned collection of Korean art, including the iconic moon jar and hanbok. Join us on an immersive and multisensory journey through a fascinating history, and celebrate a vibrant creative force that bridges cultural, societal, and linguistic divides and continues to reach new heights today. This trip is graciously sponsored by Nancy and Kent Van Zant. Transportation will leave the Senior Center at 10:00 am. For this trip, attendees will be picked and notified on Monday, May 13.

Please register for the free raffle for attendance at 617-730-2770.

Due to high demand for the Senior Centers monthly trips and a desire to be fair for all and allow more participants to enjoy these opportunities, we are piloting having registrants entered into a free staff supervised raffle. If you are part of a pair, this does not guarantee both registrants' attendance. For those who need caregiver assistance, please call Jamie at 617-730-2753. This is a pilot and we welcome your feedback.

Recruiting Older Adult Residents for Boards and Commissions

Wednesday, May 22, 2:30 p.m.

Brookline Senior Center Room 304 and Zoom

Your voice will make a difference. Learn how to ROAR (Recruiting Older Adult Residents for Boards and Commissions). You can have an impact in town government.

Seniors make up over 25 percent of voters here in Brookline, but the Boards and Commissions that review and recommend policy for the Town often ignore our concerns. We want to increase participation by seniors as voting members of Boards and Commissions who are endorsed by the Council on Aging and are acutely attuned to the needs of older adults.

Please attend to find out more about our goals, current openings, and how to apply. Let's make our voices ROAR throughout the Town.

If you are unable to be at the May 22 meeting, but would like information, please contact Janet Gelbart at .
